I'll Say It Again! Festival opens next week!
I'll Say It Again! festival opens a week today! We are very excited to welcome such a fantastic array of women artists to Tara Theatre for the month of May (2 May - 2 June). As Preti Taneja, writer and Tara Arts Trustee says:
...Equal rights begin with the ability to imagine a new world - and that's where women creative artists take centre stage. I'll Say It Again! is an extraordinary marker of women's political activism and I'm delighted to be a part of it.
Yesterday, Tuesday 24th April 2018, marked the unveiling of the bronze statue of suffragist Millicent Fawcett. The statue was created by artist Gillian Wearing and is the first female statue erected in Parliament Square.
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who opened the new Tara Theatre in 2016, says "When you think of the great people in Parliament Square and when you realise that not one of them is a woman, it sort of begs the question, are we saying there haven't been incredible women in the past? That our country hasn't been built on the back of great women?"
"The whole process - from petition to project manager - has been made up of solely women. That should make us all incredibly proud."
I'll Say It Again! is a month-long season of events by women artists, celebrating the centenary of women’s suffrage in the UK. To explore the range of events on offer, see tara-arts.com/whats-on.
