South Asian Sisters Speak & Tara Arts present Brown Girls Book Club
South Asian Sisters Speak & Tara Arts are excited to present the Brown Girls’ Book Club: ‘An Evening of Exploration’. Centred around Meera Syal’s novel ‘Life Isn’t All Ha Ha Hee Hee’, the event explores the book and aims to develop a bigger and more inclusive discussion about the issues of identity and womanhood that the book raises. In addition, Tara Arts has been working with some of our book club members to develop creative writing responses to the book, which will also be showcased at the event. Come and join us for a wonderful celebration of cultural identity, South Asian literature, and creative writing!
South Asian Sisters Speak (SASS) was created in 2016 by friends Sheetal Mistry & Shirin Shah. Frustrated by the lack of safe spaces for South Asian women, they launched the Brown Girls’ Book Club, using works by South Asian female authors as the catalyst for wider conversations. The writing project - a pilot 3-month project between SASS and Tara Arts - developed from the popularity of the book club. It aims to encourage modern South Asian women find their creative voices.
