A Weekend of Indian Contemporary & Classical Music
Join us for seven world-class concerts at Tara Theatre this Easter. Explore a variety of sounds and timbres from the sub-continent, and savour a selection of Indian flavours on offer throughout the weekend.
On Friday evening, we open with a Qawwali performance by Abi Sampa, followed by master sitarist Roopa Panesar (full details here), who will be accompanied by renowned tabla artist Bhupinder Chaggar.
Saturday begins with khayal by Deepa Hattangady Karnad (details here). The second session features vocal percussionists Konnakol and the enigmatic singer Vamshikrishna Vishnudas (details here). The evening show show is a double bill by Amrit Kaur Lohia and London-based ghazal singer Mehtab Malhotra (details here).
Sunday’s programme opens with superb percussion in the form of the Taal Vadya Kacheri, followed by Kirpal Panesar on the dilruba and tarshehnai (details here). The next session features khayal vocalist Vijay Rajput (details here). The festival will close with Arnab Chakrabarty on the sarod and tabla maestro Yogesh Samsi, followed by the world-renowned dhrupad singers, the Gundecha Brothers (details here).
