Tara Table Talk
Unconscious? Exploring Bias in UK Theatre
Thur, 11 March
Tara Table Talk is our brand-new curated series of panel discussions, which explore the complexities facing our world through a South Asian lens. We begin with the stories, lived experience, and expertise of people who have encountered racism and inequality, from microaggressions to explicit and bleak discrimination.
Each Tara Table Talk will focus on a different topic. We will be hosting conversations on racial prejudice in the casting industry, exploring colourism and looking at taboos around mental health within the Black and Asian community. The first-ever Tara Table Talk will be, Unconscious? Exploring Bias in UK Theatre, chaired by Anu Giri (Head of Business & Operations at BFI London Film Festivals and Tara Arts Trustee). Our panel will explore racial bias, stereotyping and discrimination in the creative industries.
Anu Giri is joined by Dr Pragya Agarwal - behavioural and data scientist and author of Sway: Unravelling Unconscious Bias, Anne McNulty - Freelance Casting Director and former resident Casting Director at the Donmar Warehouse and Yasmin Wilde - experienced actor, writer and singer, who has worked across theatre, film and TV over a thirty-year career.
