The Good Immigrant Off The Page
A post show event curated by Vera Chok, with readings from award-winning book, The Good Immigrant, and guest artist responses.
Fri 24 March, 9.15pm
The Good Immigrant won Britain's Book of the Year 2016 (beating Harry Potter!), was BBC Book of the Week, and #1 on Guardian Books and Amazon bestseller list. It brings together 21 British artists of colour writing about what it means to be live in the UK today.
Their essays on race and immigration paint a picture of what it means to be ‘other’ in a country that wants you yet doesn’t want you, doesn’t accept you yet needs you for equality monitoring forms and would probably prefer you if you won a major TV show.
In conjunction with Inua Ellam's An Evening With An Immigrant, we are delighted to welcome you to this unique book event, where writer, and curator of the evening, Vera Chok will host Varaidzo and Coco Khan reading excerpts from the book. Tara is keen to support the continued discussion and artistic expression inspired by these issues and is pleased to platform invited guests, Vik Sivalingam, Jules Orcullo and Krystian Godlewski sharing responses to the book. A Q&A and book signing will follow.
We hope you can join us for a funny, touching and highly pertinent evening.
Please note that if you have booked tickets to see An Evening With An Immigrant beforehand this event is FREE. If you would just like to attend this event on its own it is £5. In both cases please book to reserve your place, the discount will be automatically applied at the checkout.
Our bar will be open from 6pm.
